Our philosophy
Life is a gift. The people in it are gifts too.
Ours to Love is not a service and not a platform. It is a way of treating the time we have with the people we have, while we still have it.
One
Life is a gift
We did not create life and we cannot guarantee it. Time itself is given to us.
Two
People are gifts, not possessions
We can love someone completely without believing we can keep them forever.
Three
Be present
Technology can connect people, and it can also leave us experiencing life through screens instead of experiencing one another. Ours to Love is not anti-technology. It is pro-human.
Four
Love deeply
Because relationships are temporary, the answer is not to love less so that loss hurts less. The answer is to love more intentionally while we have one another.
Five
Humility
We cannot control everything, we do not own everything, and we are not the center of everything. We can receive something beautiful, care for it, enjoy it, share it, and eventually let it go.
Six
Gratitude
Instead of seeing a relationship only through the lens of its eventual loss, we notice the extraordinary fact that our lives crossed at all. Gratitude does not cancel grief. They live together.
Seven
Celebration
Celebrate people while they are alive. When they die, keep celebrating the life.
Eight
Give forward
Love, wisdom, generosity, traditions, stories and kindness do not have to end with us. Legacy is something good continued because you were here.
The cycle
What we receive can move through us.
Receive
Someone enters your life. However your paths crossed, their presence is something worth receiving as a gift.
Be Present
Put the screen down. Listen without preparing your response. Let silence be enough.
Love
Not carefully, not later. Deeply, and out loud, while they can hear it.
Share
Meals, stories, work, ordinary days. Love is made of shared hours.
Let Go
We do not possess people. Holding tightly was never the point.
Celebrate
Honor the whole life — the laughter, the lessons, the small things.
Give Forward
What you received moves through you and becomes someone else's gift.
A permanent product principle
Technology with humility.
Ours to Love does not compete with the people you love for your attention.
Technology can help us connect across distance, preserve authentic stories, remember what matters, and create openings for deeper human connection. But our success is not measured by how long someone stays on this website, how often they open an app, or how much attention we can capture. Our purpose is the opposite.
When technology has done its job, it should have the humility to get out of the way. Ours to Love will never intentionally design for addiction, endless engagement, infinite scrolling, digital status or unnecessary screen time. Sometimes the most successful interaction here ends with someone closing the screen, putting down the phone, and spending time with another human being.
This guides every future decision — the website, any app, any use of AI, notifications, community features, storytelling tools. Before we build anything, we ask two questions.
Does this help someone love another human being better while they are both here?
When this technology has served its purpose, does it know when to get out of the way?
The idea comes from humility: we do not need to possess, control, or place ourselves at the center of everything.
An inspiration, not a requirement
The Franciscan thread.
Saint Francis of Assisi lived simply, treated creation as kin, and understood life as something received rather than owned. That posture — humble, grateful, unhurried — shaped part of this movement.
It is offered as inspiration only. Ours to Love welcomes people of every religion, of every spirituality, and of none.
We do not have to own something forever for it to have been an extraordinary gift.
